Sabudana Khichdi Recipe In Instant Pot/ How to make Sabudana Khichdi in Instant Pot? How to Make Sabudana khichadi in Microwave?/ साबुदाणा खिचडी

As a kid I never used to like the concept of “fasting”. However, loved all the fasting food items. And out of all the yummy fasting food items, Sabudana Khichadi was my most favorite dish. Mouthwatering for sure. Now we don’t fast at all but love to make sabudana Khichadi as a breakfast item. Here is the simplest recipe of this yummilicious recipe of most popular Maharashtrian fasting food item, Sabudana Khichadi. As you all are aware that I like to try every Maharashtrian recipe in my instant pot so here also I tried it in my IP and also in Microwave (my microwave recipe is on my blog since 2014 but now it's in video format here) Click on the links below for detailed recipes.
Traditional way and in Microwave:

Instant Pot recipe:

Ingredients:

  1. Sabudana/ sago: 1 Cups
  2. Danyache kut/ Roasted peanut powder: ½ Cup
  3. Batata/ Potato: 1 (sliced)
  4. Hiravi Mirchi/ Green chilies: 4-5 (Finely chopped and as per your taste buds)
  5. Jeera/ Cumin seeds: 11/2 Tsp.
  6. Sajuk tup/ Ghee/ Clarified butter: 2-3 Tbsp.
  7. Limbu ras/ Lemon juice: 2-3 Tbsp.
  8. Kothimbir/ Cilantro: ¼ Cup (Finely chopped)
  9. Salt: To taste
  10. Sugar: To taste

Method:

  1. Take sabudana and wash it under running water. Soak it with very little water (about 1 cup) for about 6-7 hours. Cover it with a lid. Soaking depends on the quality of your sabudana. There are times when you may need to soak it overnight with some water in it to get that beautiful puffed sabudana for this khichadi.
  2. Take potato slices in a microwave safe bowl, add ½ cup water to it. Microwave it for 2 min on high. However this step is totally optional. If you don't potatoes in the khichadi, just omit this step.
  3. Transfer soaked sabudana, roasted peanut powder, salt, sugar and boiled potato in a steel container. Mix it well.
  4. Heat little ghee in a small kadhai. Add cumin seeds, green chilies and little cilantro to the tempering.
  5. Now add this tempering to the above sabudana mixture, stir well.
  6. Now in the steel inner pot, add two cups of water. Put a trivet and put the sabudana mixture container on the trivet. Put a lid on the sabudana container (Refer the video)
  7. Put Instant pot lid and put it on sealing mode.
  8. Put IP on 'Steam' mode for 14 minutes (Refer the video)
  9. After pressure is release for 10 minutes, do a quick release.
  10. Take the container out very carefully, stir and add lemon juice in it.
  11. Serve hot.
